The Department of history was established 1919. The discipline of history has undergone gradual yet revolutionary transformation over the years from a study of events to the study of processes. Today, the field of history has become unimaginably wide and the tools of a historian are not only the conventional records but a vast array of non conventional sources like mythology, folklore and oral traditions.
In addition to teaching, the department organizes special lectures, seminars, panel discussions etc. to augment the intellectual development of students. Over the years, history students have attained distinction in different spheres ranging from research, social analysis, teaching, law, administrative services, corporate sector, media and communications to films.The society has the tradition of electing its own office bearers who under the guidance of faculty members regularly organize seminars, educational trips, heritage walks, departmental festival.
The department also seeks to encourage holistic participation of its students in college life. The department endeavors to offer the widest possible options in terms of the papers prescribed by the University at the undergraduate level. It also admits students for post graduation in History.
B.A(Hons) – It is a three year Bachelor course offered by the Department.
M.A - It is a two year Post Graduation Course offered by the Department.
PhD - The dept. also provides faculty for pursuing various research programmes. The PhD course lasts for 3-5 years, depending upon the area of research.
Departmental Associated Activities-The department organises various National level Seminars. Various Reports and Journals are Published by the department.
